There are some spelling changes with present tense verbs. Check out the stem-changing page for some examples of that common change.

While stem-changing verbs have a letter-change in most forms (except the NO NO NOsotros!), there are several verbs in the present tense that only have a slight change in the YO form.

  • "-GO" verbs: salir (salgo), poner (pongo), traer (traigo), caer (caigo), hacer (hago), decir (digo), venir (vengo), tener (tengo)

  • "-JO" verbs: escoger (escojo), recoger (recojo), coger (cojo)
  • "-YO" verbs: construír (construyo), destruír (destruyo)

  • "-ZCO" verbs: conocer (conozco), reconocer (reconozco), traducir (traduzco)
  • OTHERS: saber (sé), estar (estoy), dar (doy)
  • ir (to go): voy, vas, va, vamos, van
  • ser (to be): soy, eres, es, somos, son
